The North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) has established Shilpgram- the Artisans Village at Panjabari, Guwahati. This Complex was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh on January 17, 2006.

Setting up of a Shilpgram for providing marketing facilities to the indigenous artisans of the region was one of the main objectives of the NEZCC. This long desired goal has been achieved with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India sanctioning the setting up of a Shilpgram under the aegis of North East Zone Cultural Centre. The Northeast of India is home to a large number of tribes and sub-tribes each having its own dynamic craft tradition. This is reflected in the beauty and variety of the various crafts products of Northeast India. The concept of NEZCC Shilpgram (Crafts Village) visualizes a common platform to showcase the culture, traditions and crafts of the Member-State of the NEZCC and also to provide a permanent interactive and facilitative environment for the Craftsmen of the region to share, display and improve upon their skills through workshops, classes and seminars.

The NEZCC decided to establish the Shilpgram at Guwahati, in view of the market potentialities available in the city. The NEZCC Shilpgram is strategically located next to the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra at Panjabari, Guwahati, which attracts large domestic and international tourist and visitors.

The North East Zone Cultural Centre Shilpgram has been set up at Panjabari, Guwahati. The complex has 45 (forty five) permanent stalls for exhibition-cum-sale of crafts items, 8 (eight) pavilions which function as mini museums by displaying the arts & crafts of the respective State, eight food stalls for sales and promotion of traditional food, one dormitory with a capacity to accommodate 150 artistes, an indoor auditorium and open air stage and a guest house.

The NEZCC Shilpgram organizes crafts melas by providing available space at nominal rent.  Cultural shows are also organized by inviting various artistes to perform at the Complex in the evenings at the Open Air Stage to project and promote the performing arts of the region. The facilities of the crafts village is also being made available to private and semi government organizations for holding programmes relating to cultural and socio-economic activities on nominal charges.
